TSRC was founded in 1998 by Mark Studdert and Kristen Collins when they saw a niche in the market to help homeowners save money through innovative repair techniques. Mark, a qualified stonemason, having worked with natural stones (marble, granite, limestone, and slate), porcelain, terracotta, ceramic and mosaic tiles brought hands-on experience to the company. Kristen, who graduated with a Major in Psychology, a minor in Statistics, and has a Masters Degree in Applied Psychology and Post-Graduate training for a Doctorate in Management, brought the organisational skills necessary to develop the company. Mark developed the diamond-tipped tool or The DiamoSmart® System, which enabled our operation to be quicker, cleaner, and cheaper than other operatives, giving the company a competitive advantage.
As the business evolved, it set about acquiring extra licences to meet its customer needs. Mark’s original licence in masonry was insufficient, so he obtained his tiling licence and a specialty licence for repairing leaking showers. He also obtained his licence for shower, kitchen and laundry repairs. Through the Vocational and Education Training Authority in Victoria, he also studied by correspondence for his Certificate in Management.
Originally located at their home in North Narrabeen and operated by Mark and Kristen, they then asked family members for help with office work. As the business expanded, Shower Repair Centre leased larger premises in French’s Forest for three years before moving to their present location in Brookvale in 2005. It is still a family business with three generations now in office operations and all office staff recruited from the local community.
